What the timer does
The distance break exercise starts a short countdown and gives you one clear cue: look away from the
screen and settle your gaze on a real object farther away. It avoids scores, streak pressure, and
medical claims. The point is to interrupt a fixed near-screen stare and give your eyes a calmer visual
target for a moment.
It is especially useful when you keep ignoring full break reminders. A 20-second action is easier to
accept than a long pause, so it can fit into the small gaps between commits, calls, chapters, queue
times, or spreadsheet passes.
1. Choose Distance
Select the Distance exercise in the app. The default 20-second duration matches the classic break pattern.
2. Look beyond the screen
Pick a window view, a wall object, or anything farther away. Keep your face relaxed and avoid squinting.
3. Return gently
When the countdown ends, notice how your eyes feel before returning to the task. Repeat during long sessions.
